Starbucks wants an AI 'personalized digital menu' at the drive-thru. Useful or just upselling with extra steps?

theverge.com

According to The Verge, Starbucks plans to use AI to show customers a personalised menu at the drive-thru and bring similar features to its app. Recommendation systems are about the least glamorous, most proven use of ML there is, so this is less 'AI revolution' and more a tighter feedback loop on what you already order. Where's the line for you between helpful personalisation and a menu board that knows a bit too much?

the real question is how it identifies you at a drive thru. app geofence? license plate? that part matters way more than the model

menu boards already switch by time of day and weather, this is just the next step. not scary, just retail
