What is worth spending money on for grammar?

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 2 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

Learn a few local phrases and one apology phrase. People are usually generous when they see you trying. That is where the boring checklist helps.

That made the concept click.

Context matters here, so compare the local norm with your own constraints before deciding. You will learn more from a simple version repeated three times than from a perfect plan you never start.

- Do ten minutes daily instead of one giant weekend session.
- Save phrases you actually want to say.
- Speak badly on purpose; fluency needs reps.

Source: mostly hard-won experience and comparing notes with people who stuck with it.

I think both things can be true.

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

Check the neighborhood at the time of day you will actually use it. A place can feel totally different at 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

Learn a few local phrases and one apology phrase. People are usually generous when they see you trying. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near the train station.

That is a good boundary.

Thanks, that actually helped.

Yep, the boring details matter.

This comment has main-character footnote energy.

For travel days, leave one flexible block. The best thing on a trip is often the thing you did not schedule. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

Big fan of this approach. I noticed the same thing in Mumbai.

That is the part people skip.
