Stringman: an \$800 open-source room-scale gripper robot on cables

neufangled.com

This one blew up on HN. It's a gripper hung from cables anchored around a room, so it can reach basically anywhere without wheels or arms. It's OSHWA certified, CAD/PCBs/software are published, it runs on local Wi-Fi with models on your own hardware, and the BOM is Raspberry Pis plus a few motors. Would you actually put this in your living room?

cable robots are underrated, the reach per dollar is insane compared to an arm

my cat will treat this as the greatest toy ever made and destroy it in a day

cat-proofing should be in the roadmap honestly
