Guy reverse-engineered his Renault's nav unit just to change the clock

blog.nns.ee

Great read about a 2014 Renault Latitude where changing the time apparently requires the navigation map SD card, so the author went down a full reverse-engineering rabbit hole. Timely too, since half of Europe just went through the daylight saving change and plenty of us still have a dash clock that's an hour off. It's a fun example of how much of a modern car's basic functionality is locked behind infotainment software. What's the dumbest thing your car makes you do through a screen or dealer?

Honestly this is why I keep my old 2006 Corolla alive, the clock has two buttons and they work

My car needs the dealer to 'code' a new battery. A battery. In 2026
