If hackers can take over supermarket freezers, what about the rest of our 'smart' stuff?

bbc.co.uk

BBC piece on the cyber-attack that hit shop freezers across several European countries and what it says about connected devices more broadly. A lot of commercial refrigeration is remotely monitored for efficiency, and those systems often run old firmware on networks nobody really owns. It's not panic-worthy, but it's a good reminder that operational tech is usually the weakest link. For those who work in OT or retail IT: how is this stuff actually segmented in practice?

Worked in retail IT. Refrigeration vendors often had their own remote access box in the store that we weren't even allowed to touch. Segmentation was 'it's on a different VLAN, probably'

Nice to see a calm article for once. Most coverage of this was pure fearmongering

my fridge isn't smart and I've never been happier about it
