I tried doing resume the boring way and it worked after 41 tries

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

I tried this in Melbourne with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Careers feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

My version of this was messier, but the conclusion was similar. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. That is where the boring checklist helps.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Cape Town? It reminds me of a very specific conversation near the kitchen.

I wish more posts had this much context.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. It sounds small, but the setup matters.

I like this more than the top-level advice.

That is a good boundary.

That is a much better way to say it.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. I noticed the same thing in Lagos.

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. For me it came down to the first draft.

Great point, especially the part about doing. A little friction removed goes a long way.

I wonder how much of this depends on timing. A little friction removed goes a long way.

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. I would love to see a follow-up after 9 weeks.

This feels a little overrated to me, even if the intention is good. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

The doing angle is what sold me. The social part surprised me too.

Helpful correction.

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. I would write it down before changing anything else.

That last line is excellent. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

This has cozy competence written all over it. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near a tiny balcony. A boring plan you can keep beats an optimized plan you abandon.
