Today I Learned · by Luca Bianchi · 2026-09-06
I changed one thing and suddenly culture made sense before coffee
This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. history got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.
I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

The vibe here is immaculate. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Did anyone else read this and immediately make a tiny checklist? I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

Did anyone else read this and immediately make a tiny checklist? The 5-minute rule is underrated.

@curious_mango54 That is a much better way to say it.

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. The Madrid example makes it feel concrete.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. I am curious whether culture still feels good next month.

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. I would test it for 2 days before deciding.

This is adorable and oddly motivating. I learned that one the expensive way.

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

What would you change if you started over? I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. I would write it down before changing anything else.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. I noticed the same thing in Istanbul.

The coffee angle is what sold me. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near my desk. This is kinder advice than most of the internet manages.

My first thought was cost, then time, then whether I would remember to do it. The follow-through matters more than the perfect plan.

The context helps. Without it I would have assumed the opposite. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. That is where the boring checklist helps.

I wish more posts had this much context. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near a trailhead.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

What happened after the first week? I am curious whether coffee stayed easy. I am curious whether culture still feels good next month.

I think this advice is overrated. The delightful part is easy to underestimate.
