Hiking · by Tomás Gómez · 2026-09-06

My favorite low-effort upgrade for gear for absolute beginners

I tried this in Seoul with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Hiking feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

The vibe here is immaculate. The busy month version is even more interesting.

I wish more posts had this much context.

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. This is more useful on a tired lunch break than on a perfect day.

This is useful for some cases, but terrible advice if the stakes are high. I am curious whether gear still feels good next month.

Kind of wild how often cases is the whole issue.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

Yep, the boring details matter.

Great point, especially the part about gear. I used to overcomplicate this constantly. Recovery is training too.

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

I am cheering for this update. I keep a note about trails for exactly this reason.
