A beginner mistake I am weirdly glad I made before coffee
Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the tiny repair for a while.
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat
This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. memes got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.
My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 2 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

The context helps. Without it I would have assumed the opposite. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. The Seoul example makes it feel concrete.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

Can you expand on that a bit?

Maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger than the post suggests. A little friction removed goes a long way.

I like this more than the top-level advice.

Great point, especially the part about glad. The Monday morning version is even more interesting. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes.

I needed the reminder to start smaller.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. The busy month version is even more interesting.

This has cozy competence written all over it. The quiet part is easy to underestimate.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. The 4-minute rule is underrated.

Good reminder that boring can be good. I am curious whether jokes still feels good next month.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. I am curious whether silly still feels good next month.

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. For me it came down to the tiny repair.

Exactly; the hidden cost is energy.

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about made. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.
