Smartphone made me rethink a small assumption in Manila

en.wikipedia.org

The detail that surprised me was how much the corner shop changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

I tried this in Istanbul with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the setup for a while.

I tried this in Lisbon with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error. The boring solution is probably the reliable one here.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

I had the same reaction to solution.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. I noticed the same thing in Lisbon. This is exactly the kind of tradeoff teams argue about for weeks.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink assumption. I noticed the same thing in Melbourne. I would love to see the benchmark numbers.

This is useful for some cases, but terrible advice if the stakes are high. This pairs weirdly well with arepas.

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. I learned that one the expensive way.
