Today I Learned · by Silver Fern · 2026-09-07

I finally understand why Today I Learned people care about history from my busy month notes

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 6 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the recipe for a while.

I tried this in Dublin with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

I do not have a strong take, but the history detail is useful. This is more useful on a tired weekend than on a perfect day.

Could be regional too.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error. The follow-through matters more than the perfect plan.

Anecdote beats theory here.

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method. For me it came down to the first draft.
