Hiking · by Ananya Rao · 2026-09-07

The thing nobody told me about trails with a gentle constraint

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Hiking feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the recipe for a while.

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method.

Can you share what you tried before this? My only addition is to make the first step visible.

This made me smile more than expected. I am curious whether maps still feels good next month. That route sounds like type-two fun.
