Unpopular Opinions · by Mina Chowdhury · 2026-09-08

The small opinions habit that changed my winter from a trailhead

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. culture got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

I started this because my winter felt a little stuck, and opinions seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 8 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

The changed angle is what sold me. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

I do not have a strong take, but the habit detail is useful.

This made me smile more than expected. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

My wallet felt that.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

Great point, especially the part about winter. The Lagos example makes it feel concrete.

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. I keep a note about opinions for exactly this reason.

I would pin this if I could.
