What is your default move when technique gets messy after a tiny failure

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Cooking feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

Surprised more people aren't choosing Keep it simple. It seems like the practical answer. My only addition is to make the first step visible.
