A tiny story about idli, Cairo and timing on a budget
I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.
I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 9 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.
My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 5 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

Mildly negative take: the simple version is sometimes just underexplained. I keep a note about history for exactly this reason.

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. I am curious whether culture still feels good next month.

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. The social part surprised me too. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. My friend tried it in Lagos and had the opposite result.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. I noticed the same thing in Cape Town.

Really good advice, and it feels doable. It sounds small, but the recipe matters.

The conclusion is too broad, but the example is interesting. The chaotic constraint is probably the real story.
