What is worth spending money on for film without overthinking it?

context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Movies feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

I would start with the thing that already interests you, then branch outward by creator, era, or theme. Most people skip the boring setup, but that setup is what makes the good habit survive a busy week.

- Start small and make the next step obvious.
- Keep notes so you can compare what worked.
- Ask someone with recent experience, not just strong opinions.

Source: mostly hard-won experience and comparing notes with people who stuck with it

Totally agree, especially for beginners

helpful and not preachy, which is rare. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability

My practical advice is to make the next step tiny enough that you can do it today. Momentum usually answers half the question. The social part surprised me too

good clarification — I read it differently at first

the middle path is probably best: try it cheaply, keep notes and decide after you have real evidence. It sounds small, but the first draft matters

I would ask what outcome you want in two weeks, not in some ideal future. That makes the choice much clearer. The Cairo example makes it feel concrete

the kindness in this post is lovely. That is the kind of detail beginners miss

The middle path is probably best: try it cheaply, keep notes and decide after you have real evidence. My friend tried it in Istanbul and had the opposite result

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. The social part surprised me too

I would pin this if I could

Same here. It took me too long to learn
