Explain Like I'm Five · by Aarav Sharma · 2026-09-12

I finally understand why Explain Like I'm Five people care about learning from my weekend notes

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Explain Like I'm Five feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I tried this in Nairobi with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 6 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 7 months. This is more useful on a tired first week than on a perfect day.

Yep, the boring details matter.
