The small housing habit that changed my first week after 25 tries
I tried this in Manila with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.
Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Cities feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat
I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

What would you change if you started over? The a neighborhood park detail changes the whole answer.

Big fan of this approach. The gentle constraint is probably the real story.

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. I am curious whether housing still feels good next month. History gets easier to understand when you can place it on a street.

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

Good reminder that boring can be good. The Manila example makes it feel concrete.

Honestly, great taste. I keep a note about transit for exactly this reason.

Good clarification — I read it differently at first.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

There is a hidden assumption here that not everyone shares. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

My first thought was cost, then time, then whether I would remember to do it. I am curious whether design still feels good next month.
