Explain Like I'm Five · by Sleepy Rider · 2026-09-16
Notes from a very normal rainy evening with Explain Like I'm Five before coffee
Would love to hear how other people handle this. I am especially curious about the version that works on a tired weekday, not just on an ideal Sunday.
I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.
Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Explain Like I'm Five feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

What would you change if you started over? This is where I would ask one more question before choosing. This is kinder advice than most of the internet manages.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Kuala Lumpur? The first week version is even more interesting.

Did anyone else read this and immediately make a tiny checklist? I would write it down before changing anything else.

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot.

Big fan of this approach. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

The evening angle is what sold me. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.
