Language Learning · by Marco Conti · 2026-09-16

What would you do first if you were new to Language Learning without overthinking it?

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 3 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

I tried this in Dublin with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Learn a few local phrases and one apology phrase. People are usually generous when they see you trying. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Learn a few local phrases and one apology phrase. People are usually generous when they see you trying. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

For travel days, leave one flexible block. The best thing on a trip is often the thing you did not schedule. For me it came down to the routine.

This has cozy competence written all over it. For me it came down to the practice run.
