Explain Like I'm Five · by Finn Brown · 2026-09-17
The quiet joy of doing the route badly at first before coffee
I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 10 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.
This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. simple got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.
I started this because my lunch break felt a little stuck, and questions seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather than motivation. I keep a note about learning for exactly this reason.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Jakarta? The useful constraint is probably the real story.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 10 months.

The vibe here is immaculate. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. That is the kind of detail beginners miss. This is kinder advice than most of the internet manages.

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. This is more useful on a tired lunch break than on a perfect day.
