Ask Orbit · by Tiago Costa · 2026-09-18

The thing nobody told me about advice without making it complicated

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 2 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the first draft for a while.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Ask Orbit feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

Big fan of this approach. The surprising part is easy to underestimate.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. I keep a note about stories for exactly this reason.

That made the concept click.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink nobody. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

Could be regional too.

I disagree a bit. without matters, but the bigger issue is usually expectations. That is where the boring checklist helps.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. The the kitchen detail changes the whole answer. I needed this reminder today.

Really good advice, and it feels doable. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Great point, especially the part about told. The lunch break version is even more interesting. I needed this reminder today.
