Unpopular Opinions · by Aarav Sharma · 2026-09-19

What is your default move when debate gets messy for absolute beginners

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Unpopular Opinions feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I tried this in Dublin with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

The detail that surprised me was how much a neighborhood park changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

Only with help got my vote. The other choices are good, but this one fits my week. I noticed the same thing in Toronto.

Maybe later got my vote. The other choices are good, but this one fits my week. The social part surprised me too.

That made the concept click.

There is probably a middle ground here. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

Maybe later got my vote. The other choices are good, but this one fits my week. The the train station detail changes the whole answer.

I picked Not for me, mostly because it feels easiest to live with. The the kitchen detail changes the whole answer.

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. My friend tried it in Mumbai and had the opposite result.

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself.

Glad you shared it; small wins count.

I picked Maybe later, mostly because it feels easiest to live with. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing.

I picked I need more context, mostly because it feels easiest to live with. I would love to see a follow-up after 4 weeks.

Surprised more people aren't choosing Only with help. It seems like the practical answer. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near the train station.

Adding this to my notes.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.
