Which advice about languages did you eventually ignore on a budget?

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the setup for a while.

Context matters here, so compare the local norm with your own constraints before deciding. Most people skip the boring setup, but that setup is what makes the good habit survive a busy week.

- Do ten minutes daily instead of one giant weekend session.
- Save phrases you actually want to say.
- Speak badly on purpose; fluency needs reps.

Source: mostly hard-won experience and comparing notes with people who stuck with it.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

Learn a few local phrases and one apology phrase. People are usually generous when they see you trying. I am curious whether speaking still feels good next month.
