A tiny story about pierogi, Berlin and timing from the corner shop

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 4 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 5 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 8 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the first draft for a while.

This feels like advice from a patient friend.

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather than motivation. That is where the boring checklist helps.

What happened after the first week? I am curious whether timing stayed easy.

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

Can you expand on that a bit?

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. That is the kind of detail beginners miss. This makes me want to look at a map for an hour.

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

Now I want a spreadsheet.

Kind of wild how often experience is the whole issue.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

The context helps. Without it I would have assumed the opposite. I would love to see a follow-up after 10 weeks.

What would you change if you started over? I keep a note about culture for exactly this reason.

What happened after the first week? I am curious whether berlin stayed easy. The the kitchen detail changes the whole answer. The everyday customs are often the best part of travel.

Good reminder that boring can be good. I noticed the same thing in Lisbon.

Really good advice, and it feels doable. The rainy evening version is even more interesting.

I like this more than the top-level advice.

I get the appeal, though I would be careful calling it the best option.

I wanted to like this, but the timing argument is weak. The everyday customs are often the best part of travel.
