A surprisingly useful lesson from the train station

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Hiking feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 6 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the route for a while.

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

I wish more posts had this much context. For me it came down to the first draft.

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about useful. I learned that one the expensive way.

Kind of wild how often timing is the whole issue.
