The surprising joy of doing the playlist badly at first before coffee

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. ux got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. I would test it for 2 days before deciding.

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

Great point, especially the part about badly. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

The Tuesday test is undefeated.

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

This comment has main-character footnote energy.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. I keep a note about css for exactly this reason.

Anecdote beats theory here.

The vibe here is immaculate. That is the kind of detail beginners miss. The boring solution is probably the reliable one here.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink badly. It sounds small, but the tiny repair matters.

The vibe here is immaculate. My friend tried it in Jakarta and had the opposite result.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

Maya Putri · 3 likes

This. Exactly this.

Aisha Jacobs · 2 likes

This. Exactly this.

Angel Reyes · 4 likes

Could be regional too.

Valeria López · 1 likes

I had the same reaction to advice.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Madrid?

Sofía Hernández · 1 likes

Thanks for making it less intimidating.

Silver Fern · 1 likes

I am curious what changed your mind.

Rohan Mehta · 3 likes

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

Hugo Martin · 4 likes

Agree completely. The simple version is underrated.

Silver Fern · 4 likes

The context helps. Without it I would have assumed the opposite.

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. For me it came down to the playlist.

What happened after the first week? I am curious whether badly stayed easy. This pairs weirdly well with pierogi.

Urban Fern · 3 likes

This has cozy competence written all over it. A little friction removed goes a long way.

Omar Hassan · 2 likes

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. The gentle part is easy to underestimate.

Daan Bakker · 2 likes

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. For me it came down to the setup.

This feels a little overrated to me, even if the intention is good. The São Paulo example makes it feel concrete.

I do not have a strong take, but the coffee detail is useful. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Noah Miller · 1 likes

The conclusion is too broad, but the example is interesting. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

Alma Nilsson · 13 likes

Yep, the boring details matter.

Noah Miller · 1 likes

Exactly; the hidden cost is energy.

Alma Nilsson · 16 likes

Kind of wild how often energy is the whole issue.

Maya Williams · 21 likes

Fair pushback.

Alma Nilsson · 13 likes

This is the kind of disagreement I like.

Alma Nilsson · 7 likes

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

Adding this to my notes.

Kabir Khan · 4 likes

Now I want a spreadsheet.

Mia Anderson · 2 likes

I think both things can be true.

Valeria López · 1 likes

That is the part people skip.

Chloe Davis · 1 likes

Good clarification — I read it differently at first.

Aarav Sharma · 0 likes

That is the part people skip.

I do not have a strong take, but the badly detail is useful. For me it came down to the conversation.

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. I am curious whether ux still feels good next month.

Sofía Hernández · 22 likes

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

Piotr Zieliński · 1 likes

That last line is excellent. I keep a note about ux for exactly this reason.

Olena Shevchenko · 1 likes

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Cape Town? It sounds small, but the recipe matters.

Mateo Cruz · 1 likes

I am mostly here for the follow-up. The social part surprised me too.

Diego García · 1 likes

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Aisha Jacobs · 1 likes

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. The Jakarta example makes it feel concrete. I would love to see the benchmark numbers.

Isha Menon · 1 likes

The kindness in this post is lovely. A little friction removed goes a long way.

Noé Petit · 0 likes

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. I would love to see a follow-up after 10 weeks.

Siti Lim · 3 likes

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

Piotr Zieliński · 2 likes

@atlasMender66 Can you expand on that a bit?

Kabir Khan · 0 likes

This reminds me of something a friend in Madrid mentioned. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

That last line is excellent. I am curious whether backend still feels good next month.
