A surprisingly useful lesson from the corner shop on a budget
My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 9 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.
I started this because my commute felt a little stuck, and routes seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

This has cozy competence written all over it. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

This has cozy competence written all over it. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. That route sounds like type-two fun.

Good clarification — I read it differently at first.

This is the kind of disagreement I like.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing. Tactics are half the fun when nobody is shouting.

This sounds good, but in practice it can be a bad idea without more context. It sounds small, but the tiny repair matters.

Anecdote beats theory here.

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

That made the concept click.

@tiny_noe22 Short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes.

I wanted to like this, but the shop argument is weak. The late summer version is even more interesting. That route sounds like type-two fun.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. I would test it for 5 days before deciding.

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about surprisingly. I would love to see a follow-up after 5 weeks.

That last line is excellent. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

Really good advice, and it feels doable. The chaotic part is easy to underestimate.

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. This is more useful on a tired first week than on a perfect day. Tactics are half the fun when nobody is shouting.

What would you change if you started over? The social part surprised me too.

I appreciate the honest middle stage, not just the polished ending. The awkward constraint is probably the real story.

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method. The messy constraint is probably the real story.

This is the gentle version of my rant.

The vibe here is immaculate. The awkward constraint is probably the real story.

The kindness in this post is lovely. This pairs weirdly well with arepas.

There is probably a middle ground here. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error. That route sounds like type-two fun.

I would not call it wrong, just incomplete. The quiet Sunday version is even more interesting.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Cape Town? I learned that one the expensive way.

I like this more than the top-level advice.

Honestly, great taste. The social part surprised me too. A tailwind can fix an entire personality for ten minutes.
