My 9-month experiment with maintenance before coffee

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 2 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

> Tiny progress is still progress.

That line sounds cheesy, but it got me through the part where bikes stopped feeling new.

The before angle is what sold me.

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about before. I would love to see a follow-up after 4 weeks.

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. The 10-minute rule is underrated.

@noodleNomad That is a good boundary.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

I disagree a bit. before matters, but the bigger issue is usually expectations. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink experiment. The my desk detail changes the whole answer.

This made me smile more than expected. For me it came down to the prototype. Tactics are half the fun when nobody is shouting.

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. The cozy constraint is probably the real story.

Adding this to my notes.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. The first week version is even more interesting.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink maintenance. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about before. I noticed the same thing in Manila.

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

Kind of wild how often method is the whole issue.

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

Now I want a spreadsheet.

Agree completely. The simple version is underrated. It sounds small, but the practice run matters.

Anecdote beats theory here.

You just saved me a bad purchase.

I needed the reminder to start smaller.

Love the tiny experiment energy. The 10-minute rule is underrated. Recovery is training too.

I am curious what changed your mind.

What happened after the first week? I am curious whether experiment stayed easy. I would test it for 7 days before deciding.

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. The social part surprised me too.

The kindness in this post is lovely. The São Paulo example makes it feel concrete.

Totally agree, especially for beginners.

Big fan of this approach. I would love to see a follow-up after 5 weeks.

I wonder how much of this depends on timing. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

That would annoy me more than it helped. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing.

The kindness in this post is lovely. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near the train station.

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. I keep a note about maintenance for exactly this reason.

Did anyone else read this and immediately make a tiny checklist? Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.
