What are the red flags beginners miss in Careers without fancy tools?

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the tiny repair for a while.

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 2 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

Ask for the total compensation, growth path and manager expectations. Salary matters, but so does the environment you will live in daily. For me it came down to the route.

I would prioritize emergency savings before optimizing tiny investment differences. Boring liquidity prevents expensive panic. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

Run the numbers on a normal month and a bad month. If the plan only works in the normal month, it is probably too fragile. I am curious whether workplace still feels good next month.
