Language Learning · by Kabir Khan · 2026-09-21

What is a realistic first 9-week plan for study?

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Language Learning feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time

learn a few local phrases and one apology phrase. People are usually generous when they see you trying. The 3-minute rule is underrated

Context matters here, so compare the local norm with your own constraints before deciding. If two options look equal, choose the one that is easier to reverse.

- Do ten minutes daily instead of one giant weekend session.
- Save phrases you actually want to say.
- Speak badly on purpose; fluency needs reps.

Come back with what happened; the details will make the next answer better

learn a few local phrases and one apology phrase. People are usually generous when they see you trying. This pairs weirdly well with shakshuka

Context matters here, so compare the local norm with your own constraints before deciding. You will learn more from a simple version repeated three times then from a perfect plan you never start.

- Do ten minutes daily instead of one giant weekend session.
- Save phrases you actually want to say.
- Speak badly on purpose; fluency needs reps.

Hope this helps!

Learn a few local phrases and one apology phrase. People are usually generous when they see you trying. The gentle part is easy to underestimate

Context matters here, so compare teh local norm with your own constraints before deciding. Most people skip teh boring setup, but that setup is what makes teh good habit survive a busy week.

- Do ten minutes daily instead of one giant weekend session.
- Save phrases you actualy want to say.
- Speak badly on purpose; fluency needs reps.

Source: mostly hard-won experience and comparing notes with people who stuck with it

check the neighborhood at the time of day you will actually use it. A place can feel totally diffrent at 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. I would write it down before changing anything else

For travel days, leave one flexible block. The best thing on a trip is often teh thing you did not schedule. That is teh kind of detail beginners miss
