A surprisingly useful lesson from the corner shop before coffee
I tried this in Nairobi with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.
Would love to hear how other people handle this. I am especially curious about the version that works on a tired weekday, not just on an ideal Sunday.
Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the practice run for a while.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. The chaotic part is easy to underestimate.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. The beautiful constraint is probably the real story.

My first thought was cost, then time, then whether I would remember to do it. The awkward constraint is probably the real story. A boring plan you can keep beats an optimized plan you abandon.

I think both things can be true.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. It sounds small, but the practice run matters.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. The gentle part is easy to underestimate. Optionality is underrated.

Thanks for making it less intimidating.

Kind of wild how often less is the whole issue.

There is probably a middle ground here. This pairs weirdly well with pierogi.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. I would document the agreement in writing.

Great point, especially the part about coffee. I noticed the same thing in Cairo.
