Today I Learned · by Felix Weber · 2026-09-25

A surprisingly useful lesson from a family dinner on a budget

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Today I Learned feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 8 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. The the library detail changes the whole answer.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near a coworking table. I needed this reminder today.

Exactly; the hidden cost is energy.

This feels a little overrated to me, even if the intention is good. It sounds small, but the first draft matters. Small progress still counts.

This is the gentle version of my rant.
