What I wish I knew before trying watering that actually stuck

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. houseplants got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

This is adorable and oddly motivating. The low-effort version is probably teh keeper

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. I noticed the same thing in Manila. Small progress still counts

the conclusion is too broad, but the example is interesting. I learned that one the expensive way

I am curious what changed your mind

This comment has main-character footnote energy

I get the appeal, though I would be careful calling it the best option. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability

Chloe Davis · 3 likes

I think both things can be true

Agree completely. The simple version is underrated. The low-effort version is probably the keeper

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 4 months. I am curious whether watering still feels good next month

@atlasMender4 Noted, and thank you

Mateo Cruz · 2 likes

Thanks for making it less intimidating

Grace Parker · 1 likes

Kind of wild how often atlasmender4 is the whole issue

I was going to disagree, but your second sentence got me

Camila Rocha · 4 likes

short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes

@atlasMender4 I had the same reaction to next

Thanks that actually helped

glad you shared it; small wins count. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error

can you share what you tried before this? I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability

Linh Tran · 20 likes

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing

Chinedu Adeyemi · 14 likes

This reminds me of something a friend in São Paulo mentioned. The quiet Sunday version is even more interesting

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. The beautiful part is easy to underestimate. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer

Haruto Sato · 10 likes

Can you share what you tried before this? I would write it down before changing anything else

The vibe here is immaculate

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me

I think the bad version of this advice causes alot of frustration. I noticed the same thing in Seoul

Mia Bauer · 7 likes

can you share what you tried before this? That is the kind of detail beginners miss

Ren Suzuki · 5 likes

I think this advice is overrated. The 9-minute rule is underrated. Glad you shared the messy version too

Cedar Lantern · 4 likes

I appreciate the honest middle stage, not just the polished ending. That is the kind of detail beginners miss

Bianca Santos · 2 likes

I wonder how much of this depends on timing. That is where the boring checklist helps

Silver Fern · 2 likes

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. I noticed the same thing in Jakarta. This is kinder advice then most of the internet manages

Chinedu Adeyemi · 1 likes

Agree completely. The simple version is underrated. The the library detail changes the whole answer. This is kinder advice than most of the internet manages

Arif Hasan · 8 likes

I would pin this if I could

Luciana Vargas · 4 likes

I had teh same reaction to agree

Bianca Santos · 1 likes

could be regional too

Lotte Jansen · 0 likes

the conclusion is too broad, but the example is interesting. This pairs weirdly well with shakshuka
