Explain Like I'm Five · by Maya Williams · 2026-09-25
Can we talk about the underrated side of questions from my busy month notes
I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 4 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.
Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the practice run for a while

The conclusion is too broad, but the example is interesting. This would of saved me a lot of trial and error

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. The 9-minute rule is underrated

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather then motivation. That is where the boring checklist helps

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. A little friction removed goes a long way

Good reminder that boring can be good. The Seoul example makes it feel concrete. Small progress still counts

this is useful for some cases but terrible advice if the stakes are high. This is more useful on a tired weekend then on a perfect day

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. I keep a note about learning for exactly this reason

I do not have a strong take but the side detail is useful. I used to overcomplicate this constantly

I wish more posts had this much context. My only addition is to make the first step visible
