What mistake taught you the most about interviews in real life?

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. interviews got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

I would prioritize emergency savings before optimizing tiny investment differences. Boring liquidity prevents expensive panic. I keep a note about workplace for exactly this reason.

Could be regional too.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

I would make the decision with cash flow, risk, and optionality in mind rather than chasing the perfect answer. Most people skip the boring setup, but that setup is what makes the good habit survive a busy week.

- Start small and make the next step obvious.
- Keep notes so you can compare what worked.
- Ask someone with recent experience, not just strong opinions.

Come back with what happened; the details will make the next answer better.

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. The Monday morning version is even more interesting.

Ask for the total compensation, growth path and manager expectations. Salary matters, but so does the environment you will live in daily. My friend tried it in Berlin and had the opposite result.
