A gentle rant about 5k and expectations in real life
I started this because my rainy evening felt a little stuck, and marathon seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat
Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Running feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

This reminds me of something a friend in Dublin mentioned. The quiet constraint is probably the real story.

Love the tiny experiment energy. I would test it for 7 days before deciding.

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method. The social part surprised me too.

This made me smile more than expected. I am curious whether shoes still feels good next month.

Exactly; the hidden cost is energy.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me. Glad you shared the messy version too.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 10 months. I noticed the same thing in Cape Town.
