What is a realistic first 8-week plan for budgeting in real life?

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 4 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

I started this because my Monday morning felt a little stuck, and investing seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

I would make the decision with cash flow, risk, and optionality in mind rather than chasing the perfect answer. Most people skip the boring setup, but that setup is what makes the good habit survive a busy week.

- Keep one month of expenses visible in your checking buffer.
- Automate savings on payday.
- Avoid any plan you can only follow when life is perfect.

Come back with what happened; the details will make the next answer better.
