The thing nobody told me about ethics before coffee

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

I started this because my lunch break felt a little stuck, and machinelearning seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. The 3-minute rule is underrated.

Valeria López · 26 likes

Helpful correction.

Maja Wiśniewska · 14 likes

That made the concept click.

Tiago Costa · 13 likes

@majabakes I would pin this if I could.

Sophie Gagnon · 5 likes

I would love a follow-up example.

Jiho Lee · 2 likes

Can you expand on that a bit?

Ngozi Bello · 2 likes

Kind of wild how often expand is the whole issue.

Brave Runner · 2 likes

I was going to disagree, but your second sentence got me.

Kabir Khan · 8 likes

This. Exactly this.

Isha Menon · 6 likes

My wallet felt that.

Mateo Cruz · 5 likes

@silver_sparrow Appreciate the nuance.

Brave Runner · 85 likes

I had the same reaction to sparrow.

Ananya Rao · 7 likes

Can you expand on that a bit?

Brave Runner · 3 likes

You just saved me a bad purchase.

Ananya Rao · 1 likes

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

Curious Baker · 3 likes

Yep, the boring details matter.

Thandi Mokoena · 2 likes

I like this more than the top-level advice.

@riverRunner38 Now I want a spreadsheet.

Thandi Mokoena · 2 likes

@silver_sparrow I am stealing that phrase.

Thandi Mokoena · 1 likes

Beautifully concise.

Jonas Schneider · 5 likes

Exactly; the hidden cost is energy.

Ethan Brooks · 3 likes

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

Kabir Khan · 1 likes

Thanks for making it less intimidating.

Élodie Favre · 1 likes

Can you expand on that a bit?

Maya Williams · 1 likes

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

Sleepy Lantern · 53 likes

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. This pairs weirdly well with sourdough.

Avery Johnson · 45 likes

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. The a family dinner detail changes the whole answer.

Pixel Fern · 18 likes

This. Exactly this.

Aoife Murphy · 37 likes

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. It sounds small, but the playlist matters.

Noah Johansson · 32 likes

Honestly, this is a little too vague to be useful. The ambitious part is easy to underestimate.

Liam Eriksson · 29 likes

This has cozy competence written all over it. For me it came down to the practice run.

Tola Ibrahim · 5 likes

Adding this to my notes.

Maya Williams · 3 likes

Thanks for making it less intimidating.

Aarav Sharma · 29 likes

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. A little friction removed goes a long way.

Sleepy Panda · 28 likes

I get the appeal, though I would be careful calling it the best option. The social part surprised me too.

Paolo Garcia · 25 likes

Agree completely. The simple version is underrated. The social part surprised me too.

Avery Johnson · 24 likes

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. It sounds small, but the playlist matters.

Tola Ibrahim · 3 likes

Respectfully, I see it the other way.

Rafael Almeida · 23 likes

I am skeptical. The idea sounds good, but the maintenance cost is real. The cozy constraint is probably the real story.

Felix Weber · 3 likes

@rafaelreads I am curious what changed your mind.

Sebastián Rojas · 22 likes

I am cheering for this update.

Miguel Santos · 21 likes

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. I noticed the same thing in Mumbai. I would love to see the benchmark numbers.

Pieter Botha · 19 likes

Glad you shared it; small wins count. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

Nusrat Akter · 18 likes

I would not call it wrong, just incomplete.

Maya Williams · 18 likes

Glad you shared it; small wins count. The gentle constraint is probably the real story.

Huy Le · 17 likes

I wonder how much of this depends on timing.

Mia Bauer · 17 likes

That last line is excellent. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing. Good reminder that tools should serve people, not the reverse.

Tola Ibrahim · 13 likes

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. That is where the boring checklist helps.

Zofia Kowalska · 12 likes

This has cozy competence written all over it.

Ethan Brooks · 11 likes

There is probably a middle ground here. That is where the boring checklist helps.

Mariam Said · 1 likes

That is the part people skip.

Kabir Khan · 11 likes

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. I keep a note about ethics for exactly this reason.

Mateo Cruz · 11 likes

I am cheering for this update. The Jakarta example makes it feel concrete.

Noah Johansson · 11 likes

This made me smile more than expected. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

Martina Fernández · 10 likes

@martina-44 Adding this to my notes.

Aoi Ito · 3 likes

Maya Williams · 10 likes

This is useful for some cases, but terrible advice if the stakes are high. I would test it for 4 days before deciding.

Solar Orbit · 4 likes

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

Oliver Smith · 10 likes

There is a hidden assumption here that not everyone shares. I am curious whether ethics still feels good next month.

Jack Taylor · 9 likes

Can you share what you tried before this? It sounds small, but the recipe matters.

Thandi Mokoena · 33 likes

That is a much better way to say it.

Omar Hassan · 22 likes

Good clarification — I read it differently at first.

Thandi Mokoena · 11 likes

Amelia Hughes · 9 likes

I appreciate the honest middle stage, not just the polished ending. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

Aarav Sharma · 3 likes

@ameliareads Noted, and thank you.

Amelia Hughes · 45 likes

@quiet_river Same here. It took me too long to learn.

Ananya Rao · 9 likes

My version of this was messier, but the conclusion was similar. This is more useful on a tired first week than on a perfect day.

Kabir Khan · 8 likes

I would not call it wrong, just incomplete. A little friction removed goes a long way.

Luca Bianchi · 3 likes

That is a good boundary.

Tomás Gómez · 0 likes

Thanks, that actually helped.

Sara Ahmed · 8 likes

That last line is excellent. I would love to see a follow-up after 7 weeks. This is exactly the kind of tradeoff teams argue about for weeks.

Felix Weber · 7 likes

Love the tiny experiment energy. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

Mariana Costa · 7 likes

I do not have a strong take, but the coffee detail is useful. A little friction removed goes a long way. The boring solution is probably the reliable one here.

Tola Ibrahim · 7 likes

Brian Otieno · 6 likes
