Explain Like I'm Five · by Angel Reyes · 2026-09-27

The practical joy of doing the routine badly at first after 34 tries

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Explain Like I'm Five feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

The detail that surprised me was how much a neighborhood park changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

I tried this in Seoul with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. questions got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

This has cozy competence written all over it. For me it came down to the practice run.

I am cheering for this update. The ambitious constraint is probably the real story.

Can you expand on that a bit?

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

The framing feels off to me. Not terrible, just not convincing.
