The ambitious joy of doing the prototype badly at first in Dublin
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat
This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. reviews got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.
My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 2 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.
I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Nairobi? I noticed the same thing in Warsaw.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. My friend tried it in Istanbul and had the opposite result.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part.

@tiny_sara That is the part people skip.

Yep, the boring details matter.

I would love a follow-up example.

That last line is excellent. The first week version is even more interesting.

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. I learned that one the expensive way.

I am cheering for this update. I keep a note about cards for exactly this reason.

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. The São Paulo example makes it feel concrete.

Good reminder that boring can be good. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. The Monday morning version is even more interesting.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. I noticed the same thing in Istanbul.

Good clarification — I read it differently at first.

Big fan of this approach. I learned that one the expensive way. This is why house rules need a constitution.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink dublin. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. I would love to see a follow-up after 9 weeks.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. The late summer version is even more interesting.

This is adorable and oddly motivating. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. My friend tried it in Lagos and had the opposite result.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. I would test it for 6 days before deciding.

Honestly, great taste. I would write it down before changing anything else.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. It sounds small, but the practice run matters.

Agree completely. The simple version is underrated. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near a tiny balcony.

I disagree a bit. doing matters, but the bigger issue is usually expectations. I noticed the same thing in Madrid.
