Notes from a very normal commute with Web Dev in São Paulo

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 9 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Web Dev feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink normal. The practical part is easy to underestimate. Good reminder that tools should serve people, not the reverse.

That is a good boundary.

Helpful correction.

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen.

Maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger than the post suggests. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

I am curious what changed your mind.

The conclusion is too broad, but the example is interesting. I keep a note about ux for exactly this reason.

Totally agree, especially for beginners.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. The low-effort version is probably the keeper. This is exactly the kind of tradeoff teams argue about for weeks.

This is adorable and oddly motivating. I learned that one the expensive way. I would love to see the benchmark numbers.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. The useful part is easy to underestimate.

@marauderPilot29 My wallet felt that.

@marauderPilot29 That is the part people skip.

Love the tiny experiment energy. I noticed the same thing in Jakarta.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

I appreciate the honest middle stage, not just the polished ending. I keep a note about performance for exactly this reason.

Fair pushback.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

That is a good boundary.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

This reminds me of something a friend in Lagos mentioned. The São Paulo example makes it feel concrete. This is exactly the kind of tradeoff teams argue about for weeks.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

This has cozy competence written all over it. A little friction removed goes a long way.

Anna Gruber · 1 likes

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. A little friction removed goes a long way. I would love to see the benchmark numbers.

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing.

Cedar Otter · 8 likes

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

This is adorable and oddly motivating. I would write it down before changing anything else.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.
