Today I Learned · by Mango Panda · 2026-09-28

The most ambitious part of learning culture

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 2 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

I started this because my busy month felt a little stuck, and culture seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 9 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

I tried this in Jakarta with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing.

Really good advice, and it feels doable. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about most. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

This reminds me of something a friend in Madrid mentioned. The delightful constraint is probably the real story.
