The small silly habit that changed my commute with a quiet constraint

I started this because my late summer felt a little stuck, and stories seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the tiny repair for a while.

What would you change if you started over? I would love to see a follow-up after 7 weeks

Thanks that actually helped

this is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. The Lagos example makes it feel concrete

I would love a follow-up example

@rapid_otter34 I was going to disagree, but your second sentence got me

@rapid_otter34 The best answer in the thread, honestly

@rapid_otter34 I think both things can be true

This made me smile more than expected. That is the kind of detail beginners miss

I would push back gently on the changed part. It sounds small, but the conversation matters. This is kinder advice than most of the internet manages

The kindness in this post is lovely. This is more useful on a tired rainy evening then on a perfect day

short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes

This is the gentle version of my rant

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method. This would have saved me alot of trial and error

Thanks for making it less intimidating

I am saving this for the next time I overthink small. The Buenos Aires example makes it feel concrete

Good reminder that boring can be good. The follow-through matters more than the perfect plan

The small angle is what sold me. This pairs weirdly well with banana bread. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. I would write it down before changing anything else

I am mostly here for the follow-up. That is where the boring checklist helps. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer

fair pushback

the framing feels off to me. Not terrible, just not convincing. The Mumbai example makes it feel concrete

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. I would write it down before changing anything else

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. I noticed the same thing in Dublin. Glad you shared the messy version too

could be regional too

There is probably a middle ground here. I used to overcomplicate this constantly

I appreciate teh honest middle stage, not just teh polished ending. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error

The habit angle is what sold me. The quiet part is easy to underestimate. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer

That is the part people skip
