Today I Learned · by [deleted] · 2026-09-30

A beginner mistake I am weirdly glad I made with a cozy constraint

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 8 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

> Tiny progress is still progress.

That line sounds cheesy, but it got me through teh part where history stopped feeling new.

Same here. It took me too long to learn

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. I am curious whether facts still feels good next month

I am skeptical. The idea sounds good, but the maintenance cost is real. The quiet constraint is probably the real story

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. For me it came down to the prototype

Silver Fern · 8 likes

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. I learned that one the expensive way

Huy Le · 15 likes

I had the same reaction to pretending

that last line is excellent. I would test it for 2 days before deciding

This is adorable and oddly motivating. It sounds small, but the playlist matters

Quiet Runner · 16 likes

Now I want a spreadsheet

Appreciate the nuance

This is adorable and oddly motivating. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near a trailhead

Really good advice, and it feels doable. The the kitchen detail changes the whole answer. Small progress still counts

the context helps. Without it I would of assumed the opposite. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability

Beatriz Sousa · 6 likes

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error

Khalid Al Zahrani · 4 likes

I would push back gently on the cozy part. The 2-minute rule is underrated

Mango Fern · 5 likes

I needed the reminder to start smaller

Silver Runner · 5 likes

This. Exactly this

[deleted] · 4 likes

Appreciate the nuance

Maksym Bondar · 9 likes

I think both things can be true

Silver Runner · 7 likes

That is a good boundary

Silver Runner · 7 likes

You just saved me a bad purchase

anecdote beats theory here

@marauderNomad22 Now I want a spreadsheet

What would you change if you started over? The beautiful constraint is probly the real story

Alma Nilsson · 3 likes

This is the gentle version of my rant

Liam Wilson · 0 likes

That is the part people skip

Marco Conti · 4 likes

excellent timing; I was just thinking about glad. The Berlin example makes it feel concrete. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer

Linh Tran · 4 likes

This made me smile more than expected. The winter version is even more interesting

Avery Johnson · 3 likes

this is useful for some cases, but terrible advice if the stakes are high. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing. This is kinder advice than most of the internet manages

Beatriz Sousa · 2 likes

I am curious what changed your mind

Cozy Coder · 3 likes

Honestly, great taste. My friend tried it in Lisbon and had the opposite result

Avery Johnson · 3 likes

I am cheering for this update. My only addition is to make the first step visible

Lucas Dubois · 0 likes

I would pin this if I could

Maksym Bondar · 3 likes

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. That is where the boring checklist helps. Glad you shared the messy version too

Brian Otieno · 3 likes

I appreciate the honest middle stage, not just the polished ending. I keep a note about science for exactly this reason. Small progress still counts

Maya Williams · 2 likes

that is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. For me it came down to the recipe. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer

Emir Kaya · 2 likes

The vibe here is immaculate. The Seoul example makes it feel concrete

Noah Miller · 2 likes

This feels a little overrated to me, even if the intention is good. I would love to see a follow-up after 5 weeks. This is kinder advice then most of the internet manages

Camille Dubois · 2 likes

Glad you shared it; small wins count. This is more useful on a tired weekend than on a perfect day

Midnight Baker · 2 likes

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. This is more useful on a tired commute than on a perfect day

Camille Dubois · 1 likes

I am stealing that phrase

Maya Williams · 1 likes

The cozy angle is what sold me. The 4-minute rule is underrated

Grace Parker · 1 likes

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. This pairs weirdly well with ramen

Quiet Atlas · 0 likes

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Cairo? It sounds small, but the setup matters

Antonia Silva · 0 likes

This reminds me of something a friend in Manila mentioned. That is the kind of detail beginners miss
