A tiny win from Manila that made my week after a tiny failure

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the first draft for a while.

Would love to hear how other people handle this. I am especially curious about the version that works on a tired weekday, not just on an ideal Sunday.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 4 months. The Cape Town example makes it feel concrete.

That is the part people skip.

@solar_lantern61 Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

@solar_lantern61 The Tuesday test is undefeated.

I think both things can be true.

This is the gentle version of my rant.

@solar_lantern61 Good clarification — I read it differently at first.

I would pin this if I could.

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. I am curious whether libraries still feels good next month. I love when a recommendation comes with the right mood attached.

Maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger than the post suggests. For me it came down to the prototype.

You just saved me a bad purchase.

That is a good boundary.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. This is more useful on a tired first week than on a perfect day.

Love the tiny experiment energy. I keep a note about libraries for exactly this reason.

Maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger than the post suggests. My friend tried it in Melbourne and had the opposite result.

This is useful for some cases, but terrible advice if the stakes are high. The Mumbai example makes it feel concrete.

Good reminder that boring can be good. I would test it for 7 days before deciding.

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. The 4-minute rule is underrated. This belongs on a rainy evening list.

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. The Madrid example makes it feel concrete.

Yep, the boring details matter.

Mehdi Benali · 11 likes

That is a much better way to say it.

I had the same reaction to rare.

I think this advice is overrated. The messy part is easy to underestimate.

Love the tiny experiment energy. The beautiful constraint is probably the real story.
