What is a realistic first 5-week plan for directors in real life?

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the first draft for a while.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Movies feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 5 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

I would ask what outcome you want in two weeks, not in some ideal future. That makes the choice much clearer. That is where the boring checklist helps.

Anecdote beats theory here.

@midnight_noah40 That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

I had the same reaction to outcome.

My practical advice is to make the next step tiny enough that you can do it today. Momentum usually answers half the question. A little friction removed goes a long way.

The Tuesday test is undefeated.

Adding this to my notes.

Can you expand on that a bit?

Glad you shared it; small wins count. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

I would start with the thing that already interests you, then branch outward by creator, era, or theme. You will learn more from a simple version repeated three times than from a perfect plan you never start.

- Start small and make the next step obvious.
- Keep notes so you can compare what worked.
- Ask someone with recent experience, not just strong opinions.

That should give you a solid first pass.
