Explain Like I'm Five · by Tanvir Rahman · 2026-10-03

How do you know when to stop tweaking simple on a budget?

part of me wanted teh fancy version with all teh tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with teh playlist for a while

Yes but I would approach it in a small, testable way rather then trying to solve everything at once. You will learn more from a simple version repeated three times than from a perfect plan you never start.

- Start small and make the next step obvious.
- Keep notes so you can compare what worked.
- Ask someone with recent experience, not just strong opinions.

Source: mostly hard-won experience and comparing notes with people who stuck with it

Come back with what happened; the details will make the next answer better

My practical advice is to make the next step tiny enough that you can do it today. Momentum usually answers half the question. This pairs weirdly well with banana bread

The middle path is probly best: try it cheaply, keep notes and decide after you have real evidence. This pairs weirdly well with bibimbap

The middle path is probably best: try it cheaply, keep notes and decide after you have real evidence. A little friction removed goes a long way

The middle path is probly best: try it cheaply, keep notes and decide after you have real evidence. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing

I am cheering for this update. I keep a note about explainers for exactly this reason

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about budget. I used to overcomplicate this constantly. Small progress still counts
