What I wish I knew before trying outdoors in Seoul

The detail that surprised me was how much my desk changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the recipe for a while.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

Big fan of this approach. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near the library.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. My friend tried it in Mexico City and had the opposite result.

The kindness in this post is lovely. I keep a note about photos for exactly this reason.

That is the part people skip.

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. I am curious whether outdoors still feels good next month.

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today.

Helpful correction.

@chloe-59 I was going to disagree, but your second sentence got me.

You just saved me a bad purchase.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

Sophie Gagnon · 11 likes

That is a good boundary.

I would pin this if I could.

This comment has main-character footnote energy.

Could be regional too.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. It sounds small, but the setup matters. The uncertainty is part of what makes it interesting.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. I keep a note about photos for exactly this reason.

Love the tiny experiment energy. I learned that one the expensive way.

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. My friend tried it in Dublin and had the opposite result.

This reminds me of something a friend in São Paulo mentioned. It sounds small, but the playlist matters. Now I want to read the paper behind it.

Lukas Huber · 2 likes

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

Irene López · 6 likes

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. The 2-minute rule is underrated.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. My friend tried it in Nairobi and had the opposite result.

This is adorable and oddly motivating. I noticed the same thing in Toronto.

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. I am curious whether photos still feels good next month.

The context helps. Without it I would have assumed the opposite. I would test it for 7 days before deciding.

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. It sounds small, but the practice run matters. The scale of it still melts my brain a little.

Maksym Bondar · 14 likes

Appreciate the nuance.

@tolabakes91 That is a much better way to say it.

Sophie Gagnon · 7 likes

@tolabakes91 I would love a follow-up example.

I wonder how much of this depends on timing. I would love to see a follow-up after 5 weeks.

Midnight Lantern · 3 likes

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

Sofía Hernández · 2 likes

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

Irene López · 1 likes

Really good advice, and it feels doable. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Amir Tan · 2 likes

The trying angle is what sold me. My friend tried it in Dublin and had the opposite result. Nature keeps being stranger than the simplified diagram.

An Pham · 1 likes

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about before. I would love to see a follow-up after 8 weeks.

Tola Ibrahim · 1 likes

I disagree a bit. wish matters, but the bigger issue is usually expectations. The social part surprised me too.

Mariana Costa · 1 likes

I wonder how much of this depends on timing. The useful part is easy to underestimate.

Cedar Baker · 0 likes

I would not call it wrong, just incomplete. The 10-minute rule is underrated.

This has cozy competence written all over it. The social part surprised me too. Nature keeps being stranger than the simplified diagram.

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

The best answer in the thread, honestly.
