This overview of OpenStreetMap answered three questions for me from a family dinner
en.wikipedia.org
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat
Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the first draft for a while.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. I would write it down before changing anything else.

I get the appeal, though I would be careful calling it the best option. This pairs weirdly well with arepas.

This reminds me of something a friend in Kuala Lumpur mentioned.

Big fan of this approach. The social part surprised me too. Public transit stories are secretly sociology stories.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 6 months. The Kuala Lumpur example makes it feel concrete.

Kind of wild how often good is the whole issue.

The best answer in the thread, honestly.

Totally agree, especially for beginners.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

I am cheering for this update. The useful constraint is probably the real story. Local context changes everything.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

This is the gentle version of my rant.

Honestly, great taste. This pairs weirdly well with ramen.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Jakarta? I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. The gentle constraint is probably the real story.

I would push back gently on the openstreetmap part. That is the kind of detail beginners miss.

Maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger than the post suggests. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

I think this advice is overrated. I would love to see a follow-up after 6 weeks.
